English Language & Writing Support

Need Help with your Scientific Writing or with your English?

There are free courses taken by some Grad Students from our department and comes highly recommended. Please discuss with your Supervisor to avoid any time conflicts and responsibilities to your lab work.

The Office of English Language and Writing Support (ELWS) provides graduate students with advanced training in academic writing and speaking. ELWS instruction targets the needs of both native and non-native speakers of English. ELWS offers non-credit courses, single-session workshops, and individual writing consultations, all for free.

There is also a program through SGS to help with many aspects of communication that can be taken for credit if you have more time to dedicate to the course. The Graduate Professional Skills program (GPS) is a new initiative from the School of Graduate Studies that consists of a variety of offerings providing doctoral stream students with a range of optional opportunities for skills development. Again, it's always a good idea to discuss with your supervisor first.
